Text message terms
What you’ll get. Orient Heights Yacht Club Notifications are club notices for members: closures and weather alerts, event reminders, and reminders that dues or other club bills are due. We do not send advertising.
Who gets them. Only members of the club. Orient Heights Yacht Club is a private, members-only club: people join by applying for membership, and the club texts only its own members, never anyone else. We do not buy, rent or share phone lists. Club membership includes club texts under the club’s membership terms, and every member can turn them off at any time (see How members sign up).
How often. Message frequency varies with club activity.
Cost. The club does not charge for these messages. Message and data rates may apply from your mobile carrier.
Stop at any time. Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving them. You’ll get one message confirming it, and no more after that. Reply START to sign up again.
Replies may not be read. Replies to club texts are passed to the club’s board, but may not be read or answered. To reach the club, email board@orientheightsyachtclub.com or call (617) 567-9439. STOP and HELP are answered automatically.
Help. Reply HELP to any message for the club’s contact details.
Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Club texts start with OHYC Notifications: so you know they’re from the club. The first message a member receives reads:
You’re subscribed to OHYC Notifications from Orient Heights Yacht Club: club notices & important events. Msg freq varies. Msg&data rates may apply. Replies may not be read, email board@orientheightsyachtclub.com. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out.
How members sign up
Only club members get club texts. People become members by applying to the club, and they are told about club texts before they join and again before their first text. Every member can turn texts off at any time.
- Part of membership. Club membership includes club texts under the club’s membership terms.
- The membership inquiry form. The form on our website for people asking about membership, at orientheightsyachtclub.com/#join, shows this notice just above the button that sends it: “Club members receive club texts (OHYC Notifications) from Orient Heights Yacht Club: club notices and important events. Message frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any club text to opt out, HELP for help. See our Terms and Privacy Policy.”, with links to this page.
- Told in person, and recorded. The program was explained to the members present at the general membership meeting on September 14, 2026, using the words below. The club Secretary called members who were not there and read them the same words, and keeps the record of who was told.
- My Account, on the members’ website. Every member can turn club texts off, and back on, at any time with one checkbox, “Send me club texts (OHYC Notifications)”, shown with the same frequency, rates, STOP and HELP notice and links to these terms. Turning texts off takes effect at once: the club’s system will not send that member another club text. The time a member turns texts off or on is recorded.
- Reply STOP, at any time. Replying STOP to any club text stops all club texts to that number. Replying START turns them back on, and HELP gets the club’s contact details.
What members were told at the meeting and by the Secretary:
“The Orient Heights Yacht Club sends text messages to members called OHYC Notifications: club notices such as closures and weather alerts, event reminders, and reminders that dues or other club bills are due. Some notices include a photo or a link to a notice on the club’s website, orientheightsyachtclub.com. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. You can reply STOP at any time to stop, and HELP for help. The full terms and privacy policy are at orientheightsyachtclub.com/sms. Would you like to receive these texts at your mobile number?”
A member’s first club text confirms the sign-up and repeats the frequency, rates, HELP and STOP (shown above). Nobody is texted from a purchased or shared list, and nobody who is not a member is texted.
